John Crain Named SLU Interim President

BATON ROUGE 鈥 John Crain, Southeastern Louisiana University鈥檚 Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, will serve as the University鈥檚 Interim President. The Executive Committee of the Board of Supervisors for the 舔阴视频 approved Crain鈥檚 appointment today upon the recommendation of 舔阴视频 President Randy Moffett.

鈥淚 have thought extensively about my recommendation for this appointment and for me, the logical choice is Dr. John Crain,鈥 said Moffett during today鈥檚 meeting. 鈥淗aving worked with him closely in my capacity as Southeastern鈥檚 President, I have full confidence that Dr. Crain will bring continuity and stability to the campus while the Board conducts a national search.鈥

Crain has served as Provost for the past seven years. His 21 years of extensive and multi-faceted experience on the Hammond campus includes Head of the Department of Accounting, Chair of the Council of Department Heads, President of the Faculty Senate, Director of the Small Business Development Center, and 13 years as a full-time faculty member.

鈥淚 appreciate the confidence of the Board and the System President in asking me to serve Southeastern in this capacity during this important transition period. Southeastern has wonderful faculty and staff who are committed, as am I, to the continued success of our great institution. It has been a privilege to work with them during my years at Southeastern as a member of the faculty and administration, and it is an honor to be asked to continue working with them in this interim capacity,鈥 said Crain.

Crain鈥檚 appointment is effective immediately at a salary rate of $227,945.

In related business, the Board Executive Committee gave President Moffett and the 舔阴视频 staff authority to hire a consultant to conduct an Institutional Review of Southeastern as well as develop a Request for Proposals for a national search firm. Next steps regarding a search for Southeastern Louisiana University鈥檚 President will be addressed by the Board at its Aug. 29 meeting in Baton Rouge.
