Statement from ULS President Sally Clausen on the Passing of Eddie Robinson

Statement from ULS President Sally Clausen on the Passing of Eddie Robinson – Apr 4, 2007

Today Louisiana mourns the loss of one of its greatest figures in history. Eddie G. Robinson was more than a sports icon, winning more football games during his 57 years at Grambling State University than any college coach in history. He also served as a mentor for thousands of young men, particularly during the Civil Rights movement.

Coming onboard in 1941 with no staff, Robinson handled whatever needed to be done for his student-athletes to be successful – from taking care of the field to tending to injuries to handling his own press.

His coaching style is a model to this day, not only because of his football skill and strategy, but also because he believed in teaching life lessons – creating well-rounded young adults as well as great football players.

The Ƶ joins the Grambling community and millions of people across the country in thanking “Coach” for his outstanding life of service that will continue to serve as an example for all.
